Our ultra-performing motors for multistage pumps.

Extreme reliability and durability for vertical mounting.

The challenge

To develop very high performance motors but with special focus on energy consumption.

Multistage pumps are responsible for pushing water through building pipes, even several meters high.
They allow you to have water in your home or office, overcoming the gravity of buildings with many floors and high height.

Multistage pumps are cylindrical machines inside which there are several impellers that follow one another and contribute to creating the pressure and developing the necessary thrust for the water to move inside the pipes.

The challenge was to create very high performance motors capable of generating the power needed for water to reach high heights, but above all of guaranteeing constant pressure in the pipes, keeping energy consumption under control.

The development

The motor is installed vertically at the end of the pump to ensure the movement of the impellers and create the necessary pressure in the water, then maintained at a constant level thanks to a sensor mounted downstream of the motor unit. The motor must be able to withstand the considerable axial load that is generated by the pump shaft, the numerous vibrations and all the mechanical stresses. The insertion environment closely in contact with moisture requires a motor with corrosion protection and hermetic sealing.

At Lafert, we pay the utmost attention to always guaranteeing the highest quality in every product we supply. We test each component before assembly and test all assembled motors to check every detail. The result is reliability, robustness and guaranteed performance.

The mechanics developed include a series of dedicated customizations, hermetic case and increased DE bearing, to make the motor extremely reliable and robust by supporting vertical mounting. The larger front bearing allows vibrations to be damped and axial load can be supported. Our motors are created with the corrosion protection necessary for insertion in humid places to ensure the constant operation and durability of the product.

Lafert's solution

The motor developed for the project is HP Integral, a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor with an integrated variable speed drive (VFD) that ensures a Super Premium Efficiency IE5 energy level and reduced consumption: cutting-edge energy savings.

The variable speed synchronous motor is combined with a dedicated VFD, fully integrated into the motor, allowing optimal control of movement, speed and power. The very high efficiency of the individual components guarantees maximum performance in compact dimensions. The pre-configured electronic interface simplifies and makes it intuitive to control the variable speed and all relevant parameters, such as current and torque.

For the specific application, the motor-drive configuration chosen is the HP Integral Flow series, with energy-efficient features optimized in HVAC applications. In addition to the safety device STO (Safety Torque Off) and communication protocols including BACnet MS/TR and Modbus RTU, the Flow series offers specific functions for pump optimization, such as periodic automatic cleaning, multipump function and anti-deposit function.

Precision, compactness and energy saving are qualities that make our motors products recognized all over the world. The combination with the VFD developed specifically for the reference application allows to achieve maximum levels of control and efficiency.

The motor can also be customized in mechanical design to meet North American regulations such as the flange and shaft design (JP Shaft Extension, NEMA flange).
